Pocket money

Are you lucky enough to get some pocket money from your family? Think of it as a mini budget so while it’s nice to have some money of your own to spend on magazines, sweets or games it’ll also help you understand the value of money.

With your own money you’re able to decide whether you want to spend it all immediately or whether you want to save up to buy something special.

If you do have some cash you should open a bank account as it’ll keep your money safe and you might earn some interest too. Opening a bank account whilst you are still at school will help in the future when you

  • Apply for an EMA
  • Start an apprenticeship or a job
  • Go onto higher education

You’ll need a bank account for any of these.
